What is a Dynamic Website?
The name dynamic website itself may seem confusing. A dynamic website is nothing more than a static website with parts of a website that can change depending on various factors such as user input, user location in the world, etc.
Dynamic websites are usually built to be more interactive with the user. Whereas a static website engages the user mainly by text and images, a dynamic website engages the visitor with special user interface controls. Google is an excellent example of a dynamic website. It dynamically displays a list of search results based on user input which is a search query typed into the input box on Google’s homepage.
Today (I am writing this in August of 2011) even though they are being actively created, you rarely will see a completely static website. Most new websites today include some type of dynamic features. You can make your static website more dynamic by embedding social network buttons (such as Facebook’s Like button, Google+ Plus One button, or Twitter’s Follow button). All these scripts are available for free from their respective providers.
A blog such as Wordpress or Google’s Blogger is another example of a dynamic website. Usually the author of the blog will post new blogs every few days to capture attention of subscribers. A Google’s free web program called FeedBurner can automatically dispatch alerts based on when new content is added to your blog.
It is entirely acceptable for a website to be mostly static with a few dynamic elements. A dynamic website, by its own classification of being dynamic will not make any impact on its success. There are extremely successful static websites as well as dynamic ones. It is simply a matter of choice.
It is always the content of the website that defines its general success and popularity on the web. Can you create something that millions of people will love to use or read articles on and come back to over and over again? That is a much more important question.
You will find countless tips and suggestions right here on this website that will guide you toward making a website that people will love.
